Following the leaking of a Supreme Court opinion calling for the overturning of Roe v Wade, there was furious denunciation of the anti-abortion judges on the court. Including, of course, Brett Kavanaugh. There were even protests outside Kavanaugh’s home, with people shouting “Shame!” as Kavanaugh and his family hid inside. A couple of weeks later, a man went to Kavanaugh’s home with a gun, a knife, a hammer, duct tape and zip ties. His intention, he says, was to murder Kavanaugh because he was “upset” by Kavanaugh’s views on abortion. The man has now been charged with attempted murder. So this was an alleged attempted assassination of a prominent public figure on the basis of his “evil” opposition to abortion. And yet there has been virtually no media analysis, far less any social-media anger. Just imagine what the response would be if a man with a pistol, a knife and rope went to Hillary Clinton’s home with the intention of murdering her for being pro-choice. It would be one of the biggest stories in the world. It would become a defining political event of our times. Yet the plot against Kavanaugh is just ignored, or certainly downplayed.
